Recently, Headway Technology Group (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a set of OceanGuard® LNG Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) to a Chinese Shipping Company, and efficiently completed all the inspections and tests in LNG mode during sea trial and was highly appreciated by customers.
According to a press release of Headway Technology Group (Qingdao) Co., Ltd., it is reported that the ship is the Three-Gorges "130 Type" LNG dual-fuel bulk carrier, which is an important implementation of the national policy of clear waters and green mountains and the 30/60 decarbonization goal(China is committed to hit peak emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060). The ship is 130 meters long and adopts two dual-fuel main engines + dual-propellers as propulsion systems, the generator sets use LNG fuel. Headway has tailor made its self-developed self-pressurized LNG fuel supply system and auxiliary system integration for this series of ships.
Headway introduced, since the implementation of the project, the severe travel restriction in China has imposed great pressure and uncertainty to the on-time delivery. Headway FGSS team quickly established an effective internal and external communication mechanism, used remote inspection and other methods to ensure that the project happened as scheduled. In addition, Headway organized a squad of engineers in time to finish the installation and the welding of gas feeding double-wall pipe in shipyard after the delivery of FGSS. Under the technical support of Headway engineers, the ship successfully completed the mooring test within 3 working days after the first LNG bunkering. During the trial voyage, Headway FGSS system ran smoothly and was easy to operate. The professional and efficient service from the Headway team was highly recognized by the shipowner as well.
It is reported that the entire gas process package of the system adopts a modular design to minimize the impact of hazardous areas for the hull design; the fuel containment system adopts a high vacuum multilayer insulated tank, which greatly reduces the weight while improving the insulation performance of the tank; The main control system adopts redundant design, the safety system adopts independent PLC control, and the safety standard of instrumentation at strategic positions reaches SIL 2; Meanwhile,
OceanGuard® FGSS also takes the direct-heating natural gas as mothed, instead of
freshwater utilizing intermediate heating medium for circular heating of natural gas, to eliminate the adverse effects caused by gas leakage in extreme cases and to improve the safety of engine room equipment.
The project manager of Headway R&D Center added that the efficient delivery of the LNG-powered vessel has laid a foundation for the delivery of sister vessels, marking itself
as a significant milestone for Headway in continuous innovation and comprehensive technical service of alternative fuel gas supply system. In future, Headway will be committed to other alternative fuel supply systems, such as methanol and ammonia fuel, to move toward the goal of the green and sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
