The Chios Marine Club organized an information and experience sharing meeting on The Importance of the Human Factor in Modern Shipping, on 08 November 2023. The meeting was held at the Angelicoussis Group Auditorium, Athens, Greece, and was attended by over 80 members.
The President of Chios Marine Club, Capt. Antonis Pitsilos, opened the event and welcomed all participants. ΄This kind of events help people of the shipping community to obtain domain knowledge and experience΄ emphasized by Capt. Pitsilos. The Seafarers' Labour Directorate Director, Captain H.C.G. Doumanis Antonios, addressed the event underlining also from his side the importance of these issues in modern shipping.
1st Panel: The importance of the crew management, its development and the timeless value of Seamanship
The moderator of the 1st Panel started: Marios Bougioukas (MoB Chios Marine Club, Logistics Director BCA College) and followed by the panelists: Capt. Michalis Z. Fotinos (1st Captain Μerchant Marine., Crew Department Manager Diana Shipping Services S.A.), Capt. Michalis Frangias (1st Captain Merchant Marine., Senior Marine Consultant, Ex-Sun Enterprises L.t.d.), Capt. Aristides Paidousis (1st Captain Merchant Marine, Marine Personnel Manager, Minerva Marine Inc.), Mr. Simos Varias (CEO of Crossworld Marine Services Inc.) who gave their views on the subject.
2nd Panel: The maritime profession in modern times
Then, the moderator of the 2nd Panel: Nikolaos Kakalis (Chios Marine Club Secretary Special & Lloyd's Register Global Bulk Carriers Segment Director) took the floor, followed by the panelists: Mr. Alexander Maraslidis (HR Manager, Angelicoussis Group Ltd.), Mr. Kostas Petrakis (HSQE Manager/DPA, Chartworld Shipping Corp.) Dr. Ioannis Patiniotis (Finance Director, Carras Hellas S.A.), Mr. Kostas Kalargiros (Group HR Director, Latsco Marine Management Inc.) who presented their views on the above thematic.
A lengthy discussion followed as well as questions from the attendees of the event, revealing the great interest and focus on human factor, today and in the future.
