Inaccurate temperatures can reduce the lifespan of marine engines if overheated with just a few degrees.
At Marintec China 2017, Danfoss Industrial Automation is launching the new MBT 5116 temperature sensor designed for optimal temperature measurement enabling shipowners and ship operators to improve engine efficiency and maintenance.
“The diesel engine is a complex machine consisting of several sub-systems, which needs constant monitoring and control to ensure optimum performance of the engine,” says Zhao Han, Sales Director at Danfoss Industrial Automation in China, and continues:
“Accordingly, there is a growing demand for precise and reliable sensors providing essential input to the engine control system. In turn, it optimizes engine performance and energy efficiency even under the most difficult operating conditions.”
Fast response time and accurate measurement
The basic principle of the compression ignition engine has remained unchanged over the past 120 years while the technology for monitoring, control and optimization of the main engine processes has advanced dramatically.
“The design of the conical sensor pocket ensures low heat radiation loss and accurate temperature measurements. The insert can be removed and exchanged without having to remove the sensor pocket and thereby, letting exhaust gas out into the machine room,” Zhao Han explains and continues:
“Moreover, the MBT 5116 temperature sensor is based on Pt100 elements made from thin film enabling long stability and fast response time.”
Computer controlled safety and maintenance
In addition to , the MBT 5116 temperature sensor enables preventative maintenance and ensure that
“The sensors are an integrated part of the engine alarm and safety system that immediately detects irregularities in temperature, pressure or flow that might cause permanent harm to the engine. If no intervention is performed, the control system prompts automatic slow-down of the engine and, if necessary, safety shut-down of the engine to avoid havoc,” says Zhao Han.
“Furthermore, the sensors collect data that can be used to benchmark engine performance and give early warning to initiate preventive maintenance measures,” he adds.
At Marintec China 2017, Danfoss A/S exhibit a joint participation from Industrial Automation, Drives, Power solution and Semico enabling the company to present a total solution from various segments to the Chinese market. Meet Danfoss A/S at the Pavilion of Denmark located at hall N1, stand D61-5.
