BIMCO applauds new IMO emissions-strategy

Nations meeting at the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London have adopted an initial strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships, setting out a vision to reduce GHG emissions from international shipping and phase them out, as soon as possible in this century.
WinGD and Wärtsilä Gas Systems have successfully tested a NG-VOC (Natural Gas - Volatile Organic Compounds) fuel mix for the WinGD X-DF engine, selected to power two 125 000 dwt Shuttle Tankers for AET.
ABS partnered with industry stakeholders Wärtsilä, Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD), GTT, Shell & Gard to host a joint conference exploring the technical and operational challenges of LNG as a marine fuel.
Ahead of critical meetings at the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) which commence on 3 April, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) says that governments must compromise to help IMO agree an ambitious strategy for the further reduction of CO2 emissions by shipping that will match the expectations of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The countdown is on: The new 0.5 per cent sulphur limit for ship fuels will take effect on 1 January 2020.
