On February 2, a ceremony for the first shipment of bauxite was held by the Guinea aluminum development project of State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) at the Port of Verga in the Verga Industrial Park, Boffa.
With the rapidly running conveyor belt, the high-quality bauxite from Guinea was delivered to “YICK BARGE 304”, a barge operated by YICK Shipping under COSCO SHIPPING Bulk. According to the plan, before February 13, about 170,000 tons of bauxite ore will be transferred to the bulk carriers of COSCO SHIPPING Bulk via the barges run by YICK Shipping.
The first shipment of bauxite marks not only the official beginning of the shipping stage of SPIC’s aluminum development project in Guinea, but also the complete success of the heavy-load linkage test in Phase I of SPIC's aluminum development port project operated and managed by COSCO SHIPPIHNG Ports. The success has laid a foundation for the trial operation of the terminal.
The Phase I port project operated and managed by COSCO SHIPPING Ports Guinea Terminal Management Co., Ltd. (CSP Guinea) is one of the first projects implemented under the cooperation framework between COSCO SHIPPING and SPIC. About 5 million to 7.5 million tons of bauxite will be exported from the terminal per year.
