On Tuesday, February 16, 2016, during the Luncheon of the Capital Link’s 7th Annual Greek Shipping Forum
the “2016 Capital Link Greek Shipping Leadership Award” was presented to Messrs. Nicolas, George and Andreas Tsavliris of the Tsavliris Salvage Group, in recognition of their unique and extensive contribution to Shipping and Greece and for their overall outstanding service to the shipping industry made by them individually, as a family and by their company.
The “Capital Link Greek Shipping Leadership Award” is presented annually to a patriarch of the Greek Shipping Community who has gained the respect and the appreciation of the international shipping industry and who is also recognized for his wisdom, philanthropy and contribution to society. The Award aims to recognize the patriarchs of Greek Shipping, those pioneers with a significant contribution to elevating Greek Shipping to its leadership position globally.
The 2013 honoree was Captain Panagiotis Tsakos, the 2014 honoree was Mr. Pericles Panagopoulos and the 2015 honoree was Mr. Lambros Varnavides, Vice Chairman of the Baltic Exchange, Trustee of the Lloyds Register Foundation and Managing Director and Global Head of Shipping RBS 1998 to 2014.
The Award Ceremony took place during the Official Luncheon of the Capital Link’s 7th Annual Greek Shipping Forum at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens. More than 450 high level participants attended the luncheon representing the elite of the financial and investment communities, as well business and government leaders from the United States, Greece and London.
Capital Link’s President, Mr. Nicolas Bornozis presented the Tsavliris Group as a successful, traditional, third generation shipowning and maritime services company. He referred to the Tsavliris Group founder, Alexander G. Tsavliris, and his achievements. He mentioned that “His legacy has been honored and expanded on by his three sons Nicolas, George and Andreas Tsavliris whom we honor today”.
Introductory remarks were made by Mr. Nicky A. Pappadakis, Chairman Emeritus, Intercargo and A.G. Pappadakis & Co. who referred to the Tsavliris family contribution to the maritime industry and stated among other “Tsavliris recently celebrated 100 years on the birth of the group’s founding father Alexander G. Tsavliris, 75 years from the commencement of the Tsavliris shipping company and 50 years from the foundation of the Tsavliris Salvage in 1964. Tsavliris family does its business with ethics, morality, honor and exceptionally high professionalism plus capability”.
Mr. Andreas Tsavliris in his speech said that “I believe that the success of our company is due to the high quality of our services which are appreciated by our clients. This award will only encourage us to maintain the same high standards and continue to improve wherever possible”.
Mr. George Tsavliris during his emotional speech highlighted the importance of synergy amongst the brothers for the success of Tsavliris Salvage. In addition to praising their father Alexander G. Tsavliris, he also emphasized the great contribution of their mother Claire to the success of the family business.
Mr. Nicolas Tsavliris said that “The success of the company is due to the brotherhood, the blood bond and the love which exists between us and our families”. He thanked the Tsavliris Salvage staff for their loyal support, the Capital Link organizers and everyone in the distinguished audience “for the great honour you have bestowed upon our family and upon the memory of our Founding Father”.
