The 28th Marine Technical Committee Meeting of Bureau Veritas Piraeus, took place on November 29th 2017 and hosted by Mr. George Andreadis, Marine Manager of Bureau Veritas Piraeus and Secretary of the Committee,
at the Yacht Club of Greece in Microlimano.
The occasion opened with socializing between the estimable members as the development in the shipping world is quick and abiding and it was a great opportunity to exchange their views.
The meeting started with the introduction of three new members by the Committee’s Chairman Mr. George Sarris, President of Enterprises Shipping & Trading S.A., subsequently Mr. George Andreadis welcomed all the members.
Mr. Brooks, Senior Project Manager- Marine & Offshore Division Paris made a presentation entitled Ship Recycling -Inventory of Hazardous Materials and Compliance to New Regulations. He analyzed the regulation as evolved from the Hong Kong Convention as well as the EU. He also described how BV can assist for its implementation.
In continuation Mr Stamatopoulos, Verifuel Business Development Manager SE Europe Bureau Veritas presented IMO 2020 Readiness – Fuel challenges and availability.
His presentation focused on ways to comply as well as the special characteristics of compliant fuels.
Mr. Dimoulas, Plan Approval Manager Veritas made a presentation with the title “Cargo Liquefaction – The risks and how to safely mitigate them”. He represent the merchanism of Liquefaction as well as ways to avoid it.
Finally Dr. Kokarakis, Vice President Technology & Business Development of Hellenic, Black Sea Region & Middle East Zone, Tackled the avalanche of environment regulations in shipping, the ballast water management, the 2020 sulphur cap and the introduction of Tier III.
The meeting was completed successfully and the discussion continued during the traditional dinner, which is a great opportunity for industry leaders and the members of BV society to exchange their opinions.
