ABS Chairman, President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki received the International Personality of the Year Award at the 15th Annual Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Greek shipping industry,” said Wiernicki. “It is very humbling to accept this award on behalf of the millions of mariners around the world who keep this industry moving and growing each day as they are truly the honorable personalities and unsung heroes.”
The International Personality of the Year Award, sponsored by Capital Ship Management Corp., is presented to a non-Greek individual who has made a stand-out contribution to the Greek shipping or maritime industries in the past year. Leading ABS, the largest classification organization in Greece, Wiernicki oversees many significant investments in Greece; most recently the unveiling of the ABS Global Ship Systems Center in Athens.
“Our prestigious and highly experienced panel of judges representing the Greek shipping industry have recognized Chris as a leader of the highest standing within our industry,” said Lloyd’s List Editor Richard Meade.
In a distinguished maritime career, Wiernicki holds numerous prestigious industry awards, including the Vice Admiral Emory S. Land Medal from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers where he also is a Fellow, an International Maritime Hall of Fame inductee, and the United Seaman’s Service Admiral of the Ocean Seas Award. Wiernicki received honorary Doctor of Science degrees from Maine Maritime Academy and SUNY Maritime College, and an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology.
