The Greek shipping community warmly welcomed the outcome of the European Parliament vote on the FuelEU Maritime Regulation, which introduces requirements on the Greenhouse Gas intensity of fuels used on board ships.
The European Parliament position reflects the essential principle of the shared responsibility between fuel suppliers and ship operators for the use of compliant fuels. The recognition once again from the European Parliament of the “polluter pays” principle and of the need for the creation of an Ocean Fund for shipping’s decarbonisation is also very important.
