On the occasion of the incident in Kos, in which a Turkish patrol boat deliberately maneuvered a Greek Coast Guard patrol boat and rammed it into Greek territorial waters, the Minister of Maritime and Islands Policy, Mr. Yiannis Plakiotakis stated:
"Turkey once again violates the rules of International Law in a provocative and dangerous way. Its purpose is obvious: To cause an episode in the Aegean. The calm of the Greek Coast Guard officials did not allow the Turkish plans to succeed. Once again Turkey is exposed to the eyes of the International Community. No matter how annoyed Turkey is, the Greek Coast Guard continues to protect our maritime borders by maximizing its operational activity". Earlier this morning, in the Greek island of Kos, in Greek territorial waters, a Turkish patrol boat deliberately maneuvered a Greek Coast Guard patrol boatwith the obvious intention to ram the Greek vessel. It is noted that the Greek patrol boat was conducting patrols in the wider maritime area along the coast. The collision resulted in minor damage to the patrol boat while no crew member was injured.
